How to Add More Style & Luxury to Your Bathroom

Plush it Up

Looking to add more style and luxury to your bathrooms?

Whether your home is on the market for sale or you simply want to add more luxury and style to your bathroom, there are small changes that anyone can make to help transform the bathroom experience.

A survey by the makers of Quilted Northern Ultra Plush 3 ply tissue, of which I’m now serving as the local spokesperson, found that 74% of women wished their bathroom were a place where they could relax.

Here are some tips for taking the bathroom from beyond clean and comfortable and into a warm and inviting space that welcomes you in:

  • Indulge: Add decorative towels and hand towels.  Fresh new towels displayed over the bathtub and on the bathroom counter will help set a mood of luxury and indulgence.
  • Slip Into Comfort:  Add a pair of slippers next to the bathtub, as it will serve as a reminder that there's warmth and comfort when you step out of that bubble bath.
  • Take it Off the Hook:  Instead of hanging a robe on a hook, purchase a nice wooden hanger.  It's an easy solution that adds a touch of luxury.
  • Plush It Up:  From fluffy bath mats to quality bath tissue such as Quilted Northern Ultra Plush 3 Ply, you have a perfect and affordable way in which to add added layers of softness.
  • Fancy that:  How you display your items has an overall impact on how the room feels.  Glass containers to house your bath crystals, soaps, etc... add instant style to your room.

Because a master bathroom is viewed as an escape, a place to pamper and relax after a long hard day it becomes an important room within the home.  These affordable solutions can be applied to any home.

Here's an example of a model home I had home staged using some of these techniques:

In this before picture, you'll see that the bathroom is still under construction.

Ribbon Up! The latest addition to my blog posts!

If you follow my blog posts here on Active Rain, you know that I share a lot of my staging via pictures in my post.  For me personally, it's been a great way to show case my work and has fortunately led to many new opportunities.

Last week, while browsing different groups, I found a blog post by Teresa Berry (a fellow member on AR) who had taken the time to share a free online ribbon generator site.  The site is called Quick Ribbon.

If you look at this blog post, you'll see the ribbon in action (it's at the top of the page, far right hand corner). See it?  It reads:  "Portfolio."  When you click on this word, it automatically takes you to my portfolio page of my web site.

Here's Teresa's original post:  Free, Fun, Generator...

As you'll see, you can select your color (I chose green to match my header background); you can select your font, the text or message you want it to read and then create the actual link (where you want the user to be directed to).

The process to add it to your posts here on Active Rain is super easy. Once you've completed making your ribbon, simply go to your "my home", "my settings", paste the code in the blog description box provided off the Quick Ribbon site and press update.

Thanks, Teresa. It's members like you who are willing to share that makes this Active Rain an incredible place.

Kathy

Standing Out In A Sea Of Homes - Far Far Away

I recently shared pictures in a post titled Home Staging Up Close & Personal pictures I had taken that were close-ups of some of my more recent projects.  This evening I was going through my portfolio and thought there may be some value in sharing a couple of pictures where the photo actually captures more than a single room.

Here's one project I had done a few months ago.  As you can see, this photo captures the living area, kitchen and kitchen eat-in.  I somehow managed to capture the ceiling, which in this home was a gorgeous feature of the home.

Here's another picture that captures a variety of the rooms within the home.  As you can see, it showcases the living room, eat-in kitchen, kitchen and even a small glimpse of the dining room (left hand side of the picture).

I've learned to send a variety of different angles and views of the homes I've staged so that the agent can make the decision on which ones to use. Thus far, it's worked perfectly.

A Prospective Buyer Pays A Visit DURING Staging

Last week, while staging this town home (see below), we had a prospective buyer pay a visit.  She happened to be viewing the home next door which was also on the market.  I had been introduced to the potential buyer via the agent who was showing her that home. That agent had offered to show me her listing so that I could see the difference in floor plans.  She also made mention that her listing was already "partially staged."  I couldn't wait to go in.  My excitement quickly vanished when I entered.  It turns out that her definition of "partially staged" equates to a rug and a floor plant for the living room.  Dumbfounded, I excused myself. But, I digressed.

The prospective buyer stayed for approximately 10 minutes in the home next door.  When she made the visit to the home we were staging, she stayed for almost 20 minutes.  Why the difference?

  • Because she had someone to talk to?  No, that's not it.  She had the listing agent there to engage in conversation inside the other home.
  • Could it have been the price?  No.  Both were priced at equal amounts.
  • Could it have been that we (me and my assistant) have awesome and incredible personalities?  Not likely.  But... for those wondering, we do have great personalities (smile).
So... what I truly believe, based on her vast amount of compliments, is that staging gave the home more interest; more things to view, to touch, and allowed her to visually take stake, on an emotional level, in the home.  Adding furniture and accessories can truly make a difference in how the home appears.

Here are a few pictures:

Here's the same room after we staged:

And here's the room at a slightly different angle:

And while I don't have a "before" picture to accompany the following picture (see below), I did like how the picture came out.

To ensure I captured the size of the kitchen, I sent the following picture to the agent for his use.
