For me personally, I have found that bedding can literally make or break the look of the room. As a result, I find I spend an incredible amount of time looking for the right set to showcase the room.
My objective with masters is really no different than any other room. I want to provide a visual for the prospective buyers on how they can use the space. The difference for a bedroom is that you have this massive canvas called a mattress to help showcase the room. Pure opportunity!

Beautiful, Kathy! Having dealt with bedrooms with dormers, I know that they are sometimes challenging, so I'm sure your design job would help sell this space. I'd bet that, thanks to your use of deep, rich colors, few people notice that the windows are still bare.
Suzanne Stephens, Point2Agent Design Partner
Thanks, Patricia!
Suzanne - You're right; it's a bit more challenging to stage a room with a dormer.
Thanks, Marci!!
Kathy
Sondra - It can make a huge difference. I'm glad to know that it's inspired you. Thanks
Kathy
Ok, now did you have a professional photographer take your "after" picture? It's awesome in every way!
Susan - The Realtor took this picture. I think he did a fabulous job! Thanks!
Thanks, Yvonne.
Kathleen - I'm taking it "in a good way." LOL. Thanks!
Kathy
Kathy, beautiful job!
I love the bedding btw.
Thanks, Dane.
Bevin I love the angle the Realtor used when he took this shot! It really captures the whole room. And... something else I just noticed is that the two prints in the room are actually "sister" prints. However, because you see the reflection of one, it looks like I used the same exact one. Too funny. Thanks for commenting.
Jo - I'd have to find the receipt. It may have been Wal-Mart or Target.
Lori - Thank you!!! I too love the lamps used in the bedroom. Perhaps someday I'll be able to use them in my own home (lol).
Kathy
Kathy - Running out of ways to say Fantastic. Will work on my vocabulary before your next post!
Great pic! I want to ask where did you find your lamps? They look really sharp!
Cheers,
Cindy
Thanks, Betty.
Maureen - You're so sweet. Thank you.
Cindy - The lamps were a recent purchase at Kirklands.
Kathy
Love your work always!! I have morning sickness all week...
Keep up your great work!!
Misako
Thanks, Misako. I'm sorry to hear that you've had morning sickness. Try eating some crackers in the morning when you first wake up. And... not to worry, this will pass.
Kathy
WOW! Love black in a space..adds drama and grounds the space! Fantastico!
Julia
Kathy: FYI - They have that comforter at Target, but it is not cheap, over $129 for a queen. They have the coordinating black sheets on sale, but not the comforter. I have been eyeing it for weeks. I love it. You beat me to it. I guess I'm going to have to keep up with you and buy it now.
You did a great job. The room looks wonderful.
Thanks, Julia.
Michelle - It's an awesome set and worth the money! FYI - I typically don't roll the bedspreads back so... no need for sheets. However, should I look to do that using this set in another home, I'm going to make that same purchase (black sheets). Thanks for your kind words.
Kathy
WOW that touch with the black in the patterned spread and lamp shades and the excitement in the spindling on the lamps is GREAT. I love that you see the bedspread as an opportunity!!!
Thanks, Bob & Paula.
I too love the lamps and the spread. It was a little pricey. However, it really makes a big difference when nice bedding is used.
Thanks for your kind comments.
Kathy
Kathy,
Once again you do the nicest work so simple and elegant. I agree with you that bedding makes the room. When we stage a bedroom I always invest the most in the bedding and the lamps to make the rental furniture look fade away. I always add tons of pillows too. On the dresser I like to keep things simple- a floral, apothecary jars, a tray etc. Do you have a Steinmart near you? I think they have the BEST bedding. It is not cheap but is so sophisticated. I can get a set of Apothecary jars at BB&B for $19.99 minus the discount. Keep up the great work I am a huge fan. KH
Thanks, Kate. That's a huge compliment coming from someone I admire and respect so much! Thank you!
As for Steinmart - I do have one pretty close by. I haven't been there in ages though but... will definitely head out there to check out their bedding.
Kathy
Kathy - this room is beautiful - simple yet stylish - and the bedding is stunning. You have done a fabulous job - as always:)
Stephanie
I am looking through these posts for a good look at your work- what is the budget for this room? I am trying to get your design objective in the slightly off balanced placement of the pillows and side table accessories, particularly when contrasted with the dead-on center placing of the dresser fern, and the shot decision of centering the painting from the opposing wall. It looks like this room would really be nice if it was gone through again and adjusted, and then re-shot with a better camera angle.
The "before" shot being so close to the opposing corner vs the after shot is really a unnecessary trick, the interior decorating should be enough. You should mark your "before" shot ( either tab the feet on your tripod or measure from the walls to repeat the placement) as well as the zoom factor so it won't look like you are trying emptily embellish, as it does now.
