Getting Rid of the Blues - With Home Staging

Don't get me wrong, I like the color blue.  In fact as a small child, when asked what my favorite color was I instantly replied with "blue."

Now having said that, I will openly admit that times have changed and it no longer is a favored color.   While I like the color, my new favorite is GREEN.

With all my staging projects, I aim for warmth.  Whether the home is occupied, being flipped, or vacant, the colors on the wall matter.

Here's an example.  The kitchen a) appears cold (minus the cheeze-its) and isn't as appealing as it could be.

A change in color; which now matches the living room and provides continuity (more on that subject in a different blog), and a few added accessories and we've got instant warmth.

Looks like a completely different kitchen! Who ate the Cheezits?
Posted by Karen Otto, Plano Home Staging, Dallas Home Staging www.homestarstaging.com (Home Star Staging) almost 5 years ago

Thanks, Bob.

Terry - I just love using green!

Diane - That's what the homeowner said as well.  She was blown away with the entire home.

Sheron - I think you're right... It did go from rags to riches.

Karen - It wasn't me.  I think it was the Realtor (smile).

Like Night & Day just with a little paint. Good job.

Green is one of my favorite colors!  I have a green kitchen too.  The blue was just all wrong in that kitchen.  Of course, I have heard that blue kitchens suppress your appetite (maybe I should re-think my choice for kitchen paint colors!).

Kathy - lovely transformation.  I love nature and as green is such a prevalent color in nature, it just seems natural that I not only have it in my home but seem to utilize it a lot in my work.

Kathy, this looks great.  What a difference.  I could just see the eyes of potential buyers rolling to the back of their heads with the blue.

The green makes all look fresh, and very, very livable.  What colour did you use?

Joelle - the paint color is called Olive Branch and is manufactured by Duron.  I love the color and would absolutely use it in my own home.  In fact, I may just use this in a spare bedroom I have.

When I was a child -- GREEN, without hesitation!  Everyone looked at me funny -- still is today!  Great job, Kathy!

Few people realize the effect color can have on mood and comfort. The green looks fresh. Good choice.

UGH, blue is a hard color to swallow.  I love green...it's such a great neutral color...works well with contemporary, classic, modern, etc.  Great transformation!

Me again...BTW, why didn't you put the Cheez-its back when you staged?  It looked great!  LOL
Posted by Abby Roselli, Staten Island Home Stager (ALR Home Staging and Showcasing, LLC) almost 5 years ago

Heavens, that looks amazingly different.  Well done.  Really fabulous difference.

Hey, a number of AR stgers put lamps on a kitchen counter?  Wouldn't it better to stick up under cabinet lighting?

Posted by Juliet Johnson - Web Based Marketing Specialist (Vizzitopia) almost 5 years ago
What an amazing difference! I have never heard of Duron...is it carried by a particular chain of stores? Is it a very expensive paint? I always recommend Benjamin Moore but it is nice to have another choice.

Wow!  What a change with just color and a few accessories!  You did a great job.
Posted by Susan Buchanan (harvey & associates realty) almost 5 years ago

Thanks, Karen.

Michelle - This light shade of green does look fresh.

Juliet - There's an element of design, in my opinion, when an appropriate size lamp is used on the counter.  I have one on my counter within my own home and have for years.  I just love the look.

Diana - I just did a search and it appears you could purchase at Target.  You may want to do a similar search in your own area and see what comes up.

Thanks, Susan.

The green compliments the wood cabinets so much better.  The whole kitchen looks so much warming and inviting!

Kathy, This looks like a different kitchen. The change reminded me of the difference one sees when changing from jeans and a T-shirt to a business suit. It isn't only visual. There is a different feeling about the room. Great color choice.

Hi Kathy,

The kitchen looks awesome, what a difference! I love the paint color, great choice! Although I think you should have kepted the cheez-its! (Get your own box!!!) LOL

Posted by Penny Schoenbeck, AZ Home Styling (AZ Home Styling & Redesign) almost 5 years ago

Yvonne - It does look completely different.  The owner made the comment that she should have had me in years ago.

Penny - I eye-spied those Cheeze-its up and down as I hadn't eaten and this was a late afternoon appointment.  Too funny.

How did I miss this beautiful post?  Excellent choice of green.  There are SO many it is easy to get it wrong.  I love the natural feeling a green kitchen imparts...leaves, grass, lettuce, celery, avacados....

Diane:  Duron had been the contractor paint of choice for at least the last 15 years that I've been aware of it before Sherwin Williams bought the company about a year or so ago.  The paint companies have been doing what the banking industry did some years ago, merging and consolidating.  I think it was Ben Moore that bought Pratt-Lambert, leaving its top 2 scientists to go off in a huff and start their own paint line, C2 yada yada yada.  As long as the colors keep on coming, though, I'm fine with it.

Ew! That blue was bad. The green is just perfect. It's one of my favorites too :)
Posted by Rachel Backus - www.stagedmakeovers.com (Staged Makeovers) almost 5 years ago
They need to outlaw that shade of blue, especially in a kitchen.
Posted by Susan Peters - The Better it Looks the Better it Sells (Dove Realty Inc.) almost 5 years ago

I agree the blue must simply go. BUT once I had to stage with this color because the sellers just had the whole house painted and the realtor warned me not to ask them to change it. SO I did and the house sold in 4days.

Kathy,

Excellent choice in color change.  At first, even the cabinets look newer.

Thanks everyone!

I'm still laughing at Susan's response that they should outlaw that shade of blue.  Too funny.
