Clutter CAN Eat Equity!

Barb Schwarz, with StagedHomes.com, has coined the phrase Clutter Eats Equity.   I couldn't agree more.

When asked by Jeff Aughey with Alpha Homes to view this townhome to determine what the home needed from a staging perspective, the solution came quite quickly.

As you'll see in the "before" picture, the toys are a bit overwhelming.  The baskets are filled to the brim with items that well... simply don't need to be there.

Here's what I'm referring to:

Home Staging Atlanta Before Picture

By removing the clutter and adding a few accessories, the home now has a level of sophistication.

It is amazing how chainging a couple of things around changes the whole look.  And I bet it didn't even cost anything.

Good point..and clutter can be a problem, no matter how BIG the house is. Thank you.

What a difference in your clients Townhome.  I am an ASP and went thru Barb Schwartz program.  So much fun in creating from what the sellers already have to make their home out shine the other homes on the market!  Good job on this Staging.

Linda - The cost was extremely low.

Al - You're 100% correct.

Cindy - Thank you.

It does look much better. Removing the red slipcover (is that what you did?) also provides for a classier look in all light color tones. Uncluttering - of course!

Sharon - The red chair is gone.  The chair you see pictured is one that was in a corner in the other side of the room.

Kathy, You conquered the clutter and gave sophistication to the space in one fell swoop or as we say around here "in one swell foop." What a great transformation!

Thanks, Yvonne & Jo.

Cindy - Yes, there were way too many candles.  This is a good example of "less is more."

Michelle - You are so sweet.  Thank you.

Hi Kathy, well presented!  I'm a no-clutter in my home neat freak.  Mainly because if the house has stuff laying all around it doesn't look clean, and represents work I need to do.  So, I keep things hidden away, and for the most part all surfaces are clutter free, that is until my grandchildren spend the night :-)

It has a great look now. The baskets and the red chair took away from the room.

It's funny because we see the differences, but how many times do we walk into a house (realtors, not stagers) and not see the obvious.  Good Job.

Kathy - the room looks so much more serene "after" you pulled off your magic.  I couldn't agree more with Cindy about the candles in the fireplace - stood out for me like a sore thumb.  What were the client's thinking - everything in that room was busy, busy, busy.  I like the new picture you put above the fireplace, certainly more calming than the before picture.  The blue to green kitchen in the background is also far more soothing.  Congratulations - great job.

Nice job.  As a Stager I understand how difficult it can be to work with a client's belongings to create the look you are going for.  Your photos are an outstanding example of what a difference a Stager can make!

Kathy ~ Very nice transformation!  Rreducing the candles in the fireplace, tidying up the baskets, moving some of the furniture (including "Charlie's" chair) were all great ideas that make the home so much more appealing.

You are so right about clutter. . . most homeowners don't realize the deadly effect it can have.

Thanks everyone for your kind words.  I'm definitely here to help make a difference.

As I say to many of my prospects and clients - should I elect to sell my own home, there would be a definite need to "stage" it.  Don't get me wrong, it looks nice but... the flow is wrong and there are way too many items.

Again, thanks for commenting!

Kathy - staging your home?  I can relate to that and am actually in the process of packing away all the "things" that have been collected over the years.  I have packed six boxes of elephants - yes, elephants.  I had them all over the house.  There was even one with wings "flying" on my fan.  Now that they are packed away, I realize how much space I have and how much I like it.

Small changes here made such a huge difference.  Now THIS is a good example of what staging can do for a client because it is not a complete re-make.  I don't think most sellers want that.
