Home Stagers - In a Perfect World...
Having been a professional home stager in Atlanta Georgia for the last 5 years, there's just a few small things that I wish would be different when it comes to purchases:
For example:
- Artwork would have the price tag placed on the back of the art as oppose to the glass.
- Artwork would always have a single hook in which to hang the art. Gone would be the days of two hooks, one the left and the other on the right.
- Bedding would always come with what is labeled on the bag (i.e., the bedskirt, which it said was included would be physically in the bag).
- Hardware stores would sell picture hangers in packages far greater than 4 to 6.
- An iron that would never spit hot boiling water all over the new bedding you just purchased.

HA - that cracked me up! Who thought up the whole two hooks on the back of a picture? Irritating!
Kathy -- all those things bug me too! Another annoying thing is too much plastic and/or styrofoam packaging on items that don't need it -- it's so wasteful and even though I recycle it all, it's a hassle. I also dislike it when the throw pillows or bedding have those little "permanent" tags with their company name or logo (like Pottery Barn often does). You have to be really careful when cutting them off.
Agreed...that 2 hook thing is ridiculous!! Actually, I wish all Art had picture wire and a built in level...oh and reinforced edges that resisted bumps and bangs in transport.
Wieghtless furniture would be great and dent free or collapsable lampshades would be useful.
All four light bulbs in the package would be working light bulbs!
The stain remover would actuall remove the stain, not spread it!
Kathy- ditto on the price tag on the back and that goes for mirrors, too. Maureen, I agree, I'm tired of spending 15 minutes to unwrap/recycle the items.
One of my pet peeves would be the supposedly recloseable packages that picture hangers, etc come in. Or that when you open it everything goes everywhere. I carry zip locks of every size or little plastic containers for these.
Your list is right on target - they are some of the most annoying things ever! Love what the others have contributed too!
LOL! Great list of thing that really bug me so much! I would add coverlets and shams would come with matching bedskirts.
I wish that when you removed the bedding from the packages, it wouldn't need steaming! I wish that when you buy lamps with lampshades, it didn't have those nasty hard plastic ties that are impossible to snip off.
Wrinkle free bedding! I ironed all day Sunday for a staging on Monday! And then if the bedding could suction up tiny for moving and storing.
Leesa - I have no idea who created those double hooks. However, I don't like them (the hooks, that is (smile).
Maureen - Excellent addition to the list. Yes, those pesky little tags are an irritant. I have some place mats that had a similar tag. I think I spent 20 minutes trying to get them off.
Light weight everything would be super cool, Valerie. That was a good addition.
Kathy - I organized my tool box this weekend and dumped all those containers that the hooks are packaged in. Felt good, I'll tell ya.
Vic - Knock on wood, I haven't had a lightbulb not work.
Sheila - Yes, the list is a good one.
Cathy - I made the mistake, early on, in buying separate bedskirts and shams. That was a mistake. I'm donating all of them.
Those plastic strips that they attach the lamp shade to the lamp are sometimes so hard to get off. I think the machine used to put them on needs to be toned down a notch or two.
Karen - Wrinkle free bedding - now that would be a treat.
Kathy
Kathy~Isn't that the truth!! I love it. Thanks for the smile today.
That pillows wouldn't have 3-4 TAGS that need to be removed or would at least rip easily from the seem and not take the seem with it!
Oh for the frames that had those toothed brackets in the center. I hate those too hook ones! I don't want to have to string picture wire between them.
I love everyone's suggestions, above. I especially like Sally & Karen's suggestion of bedding that didn't need to be steamed.
I'd love to have pretty bedskirts that didn't require lifting the mattress to add them or remove them.
LOVE this wish list Kathy. As I read each one you wrote about and then the comments, I kept saying "oh ya" - what a great idea for a post!
