I often speak of the importance of showcasing the features as well as the space a home has to offer. Because I'm a visual person, I thought it best to provide an example of what I'm referring to.
As you can see below, the couch faces the two chairs. This layout makes perfect sense when you don't have your home on the market. However, when selling your home, the layout actually makes the room appear smaller. Also, the back of the couch, although nicely decorated, was one of the first things you could see upon entering the home.
Now here's the "after" picture. This simple change in the angle of the couch and moving the tree to the other side opens up the room and provides a clear path to the keeping room and kitchen.
Sometimes it's simple changes such as this that can reap the biggest reward! In the end, the most important factor to consider is how best to showcase the home.

Good advice regarding re-arranging. But it seems the zoom on the camera, for the before photo, is closer which also makes the room appear smaller.
Thanks, Judi.
Derrick - I took the "before" picture with my Sony camera without the use of the zoom. The "after" picture was taken by a professional photographer (Carolyn Hollier with myvisuallistings.com). When possible, I use Carolyn for most of the homes I stage.
Kathy
Great visuals for describing flow and space proportioning.
Can this be picked up in a how to stage yourself list or book? No - you have the eye .
very cool! i also wish you have a frontal photo of this. i didn't realize what you meant until i saw your after where it showed more of the floor plan.
cheers,
cindy
What a great before and after, so simple yet done so well. Loved the after picture too. Worth it.
Kathy Dyer
Thanks, Kathleen. That was super sweet of you to say!!
Rachel - It's a great angle to capture (when you can). Thanks for your kind words.
Kathy D and Terry - Thanks!!
Cindy - here's a "frontal" view.
The "before" picture is just absolutely horrendous (not the decor, mind you. But rather my camera which chose not to operate all that well).
Kathy
Fantastic work, Kathy....the room looks much bigger...and more of welcoming passageway to the living room from the front door, definately!
Thanks for posting the second set of pic's...great example.
Julia
Thanks, Yvonne & Julia. Your comments mean a great deal to me.

Kathy,
This is a great example which proves your point about space. I love the neat accessories you used in this staging project too ~ Very imaginative and appealing!
Sometimes I angle a piece of furniture and the sellers are simply amazed. I love this job
Phyllis Pafumi
LOL 'What 5 things are different between these 2 pictures?' That was so funny!
