As a professional home stager in Atlanta, Georgia, I've always had an interest in ensuring I take the very best pictures possible. The reason why is that not only do I use then in my portfolio, I also provide them to the homeowner AND agent for their use in the marketing of the home at no additional charge. It's my way of saying.... I understand the importance of marketing and the impact it can have.
The more exposure - the more visits. The more visits, the more likely we'll get an offer. Having great photos, even close-ups such as these below, help bring in buyers.
Here are two I had recently taken of a home we staged last week. As you can see, I applied the "Iran Watson" technique. Thanks to his guidance, I was able to make the background blurry. It's my first-ever picture that I've tried this technique and I know I have some work ahead of me.
The first picture is of the end table.

Here's a similar shot of the coffee table.

I love these pictures Kathy! I need to experiment more. It seems as though by the end of the staging I am so tired, ha. This gives me inspiration to take the time though.
Kathy- I'd say you are already there! These are beautiful and I'm glad to see more "artistic" photographs of our staging rather than the straight forward ones we normally take. I suppose I'll have to brush up on a new technique.
Such beautiful photos, Kathy! You're lucky to have Iran as a mentor -- and he's lucky to have found such a talented staging partner :-)
Awesome pictures Kathy! Love that technique.....will have to expermint with it....thanks for sharing!
Picture Perfect Kathy! Excellent...
Kathy,
Beautiful Photography! Either you are a master with the camera... or you hire a darned good photographer.
I've got a "dumb REALTOR(R)" question. Do staging professionals worry about making the property TOO Beautiful to the point of taking the focus off of the property? IF this is a concern, how do you tell when enough is enough?
Kathy - great photos and they are perfect for marketing your staging work! I'm just learning about playing around with the aperture on my NikonD5000 to get this effect. Takes some time, but looking at your photos, definitely worth the effort!
Thanks everyone for your very thoughtful and kind words.
Brad - While I can't speak for others, I know that when I stage, I aim to have the furnishings and accessories match a) the style of the home, b) the demographics of the buyer and the c) the price point of the home. My objective is always to have the potential buyers engage with the home on an emotional level AND to ensure the features of the home stand out. Hope that helps.
Kathy
Great job Kathy! "You will get the hang of it, I know it. You will get better and better I know it. If you keep practicing you will get better and better as you do it."

WOW Kathy.....you do take some of the very BEST photos and these have the look of reality....like I could reach out and touch them!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
Kathy--am looking for a word other than "wow", but there isn't one. That first photo is award winning. You do amazing work and now capture it with amazing photography. Wow, wow, wow.
Kathy, well I continue to have big envy for your photography skills. I just haven't taken the time to master my DSLR but you continue to inspire me. Thanks!
What an inspiration you are, Kathy! I'm trying to get a couple of REAs I work with regularly to use (some) of my pictures, but they prefer their own. I am going to encourage them to include some closeups.
Do your agents use closeups on the MLS?
Well I'm very impressed! Those are beautiful examples of close up at it's best!
Love it Kathy! Looks so professional and like photos you could find in a glossy magazine! Great job!
YOu are the bomb! This is just stunning photograph and staging Kathy!
Great pictures Kathy! What a great service you are providing to homeowners and Realtors.
