I received a call from a prospect for a home in Forest Park, Georgia. My client had never seen the home first-hand as he lives in California. I made a promise to him that I'd be completely honest with him and share my first impressions of the home.
Keeping to my word, I told him that the outside of the home which is painted beige with brown shutters, was the perfect color. The others homes surrounding this one were all brick. Clearly this home was standing out.
Now for the inside - well.... it's yellow. I took "before" pictures to send to him. Here's what I sent:
Unfortunately, this home had just been painted and this color was used throughout the entire house. So re-painting wasn't going to be an option.
Rather than fight the yellow, I created a plan to use a Tuscany look that would compliment the home.
Here's the "after" picture that I sent him last night (by the way, the home was staged yesterday):
As I finished the staging, I closed the door knowing factually that I had "mellowed the yellow." It felt good!

Mellow yellow ~ quite right!
Looks very inviting! On target once again!
Susan
Thanks everyone for your very kind words. I sent the pictures to the homeowner while I was on the phone with him. He was absolutely amazed!
Thanks again.
Kathy
Kathy - this is beautiful. I think as stagers, sometimes we can be too quick to jump the gun on 'we need to paint' because it's easier. What you've done here really speaks to that.
Jackie
Kathy- you know that we are in the south! This blog is supposed to be titled-Mella the Yella!
Yes, you did mella the yella! It looks great! You know your staging takes my breath away!
Kathy,
Your staging neutralizes that "yella". It almost looks like a deep beige after your work. Now it's just a lovely backdrop.
I love that dining set.
Congratulations on another fine job!

Kathy -as always you did a fantastic job I am not surprised the home owner was delighted.
Stephanie
Thanks, everyone.
Marci - Too funny. You're right tho, I should have titled this Mella Yella.
Kathy
Looks perfect- right down to the floral centerpiece on the dining table!
Kathy
Janice - I too am not fond of yellow. For a week, I kept fretting over what I would do. Then.... like the V8 commercials, it hit me. Thanks for your kind words.
Michelle - I love the lemon/lemonade analogy. How appropriate for this home! And thanks for your sweet comment.
Terry - If only I had that opportunity! A faux finish would have looked great!
Kathy
Kathy another fine example of just what the right stager can do to a property. The house looks fabulous and the furniture choices and accessories compliment the color choice.
One thing that we need to remind clients again is calling a stager for a consultations BEFORE color choices are made. Why leave it to chance when there are many stagers who are able to provide vacant, rehab and occupied property owners with the tools and tips they need before giving it up to chance?
You worked your magic again Kathy!
Thanks everyone for your very kind comments.
Kathy
Kathy,
You did a fantastic job. You have a great way with color. Kudos to you!!
Kathy - great idea for using the Tuscany style/theme in that "yella" dining room! I'm so impressed with the before and after! Thanks for sharing the photos!
