As I finished up staging my latest in-town Atlanta home, I took the time to experiment with my latest purchase; a Nikon D80. There's definitely a great deal to learn and I'm committed to making the time to learn all the wonderful features the camera has to offer.
Given the importance of the "after" photos (for the homeowner, agent and my own portfolio), it's going to be worth the investment in time and effort.
In the interim, I played around with the angle on the following shot and wanted to share it with you.
Here's a picture taken at the front entrance:
Here's a different angle. As you can see, this picture better captures one of the features of the home; the ceiling.
Are there things that can be improved upon with this photo? Most certainly. Will I take the time to learn? You bet! As for the staging itself - the Realtor gave it an A+ and said it was excellent. That, of course, warmed my heart.

The room's architectural features could definitely present a photographic challenge. You handled it well. If shot conventionally, head on, the room would probably have looked congested. Instead, by shooting at an angle you visually opened up the space.
Thanks, Cathy. I too think that the 2nd picture made a huge difference in showcasing the feature!
Leesa - I was on my knees for this picture. And, you're right, whatever works! Thanks for your comment.
Thanks, Frank.
Rosario - It does open up the room, you're right.
Gregory - that "adjustable screen" feature sounds interesting. I'll have to look into that!
Kathy
Thanks, Angela.
Michelle - I think I took over 100 photos yesterday. It was worth it though as you're right, you never know which angle is going to work and what one isn't.
Thanks, Michele! The funny thing is is that when I took this photo (on my knees), the Realtor just stood there and stared at me. Haven't a clue was he was thinking.
Kathy
Thanks, Kathleen!
LaNita - I do hope the Realtor uses this shot. He should be loading the new pictures soon. Thanks for your kind words.
Fernando - Thank You! I too love that space. It's a beautiful home and the builder did an incredible job.
Kathy
Great work!
BTW, I like the second photo's angle, it is very artistic! I concur with the Realtor: A+!!!
Thanks, Kristina!
Kathy
Great Job! I wish I had purchased that camera. Instead I purchased a Panasonic that shoots a wider picture. Not real happy with it so far. Your staging looks great.
Wow Kathy I'm impressed not only with the photos of course but your always amazing staging jobs. Now you are doing the job of two professionals and you're making it look so easy.
I have to agree the angle makes a big difference. I love the entry and the way they built in those shelves for added display and storage. Very cool place.
Kathy, I like the angles , The lighting can be improved on. Was a flash used?
Ginger
Thanks, Debbie. My husband had selected the Nikon based on recommendations he read on-line as well as at a variety of stores. I'm happy with it so far!
Karen - The home is gorgeous! Thank you for your kind words.
Ginger - I don't recall if the flash was on or not. I believe that it was. However, I too noticed that it seemed dark so... went and purchased an add-on flash. Flashes are not cheap (lol).
Maureen - Thank you for featuring!
Kathy
Thanks, Donna. I too think there could be a little more light in the hallway. The flash should help.
Marina - Thanks for your kind words.
Abby - Wait until you see some of the other pics. They too came out nice. I was really pleased this go around with the pictures.
Mark - I'm loving this camera. Friends of ours have the D70 and love it too. They too are looking to upgrade.
Cindy - You're too sweet. Thank you!
Kathya
Kathy,
That second picture's a winner! As a carpenter, I love that ceiling!
Mike in Tucson
Kathy - I am a BIG fan of you and your pictures, I loved the first one also. :) Here I thought all I had to do was "stage" but I was wrong. A "staged" picture is worth a thousand words! Thanks for sharing and educating.
Maureen - I feel a blog coming on that shares more B&A's of this home. Thanks for your kind words as it means a lot.
Mike - I too love that ceiling. The builder did a fabulous job in this home.
Janice - Thanks for being a fan (smile). Knowing how important the "after" photos are to our portfolio AND to help get the home shown through the MLS listing - I'm going to keep putting more emphasis on the quantity and quality of the shots.
Thanks, Beth!!
Yes the second pic is incredible, at first I could not make out the layout of the room but then it all came into focus, no pun intended. Your work is always incredible. About the camera, my husband is thinking of buying the NIKON as well. He has a wide angle lens, is your built in?
Phyllis Pafumi
Kathy: I love those ceilings and your photos really showcase them. That, along with your fabulous staging should sell that house lickety split.
Kathy, great staging, great photos. I am thinking of upgrading my camera this year. I find more and more now, that my photos are better than the ones the Realtor takes, and both the client and the Realtor prefer to use mine.
There just can not be enough said about the importance of great photos for the client.
You do great work, sistah, and your photos prove it! :-)
Kathy - beautiful home, beautiful ceiling and beautiful staging as always. I have started bending down low or going up a step ladder to see if I can improve my shots - your picture gives me added incentive:)
Stephanie
Thanks for illustrating this point with your photos, Kathy. Excellent marketing technique!
Kathy
Kathy - I've been wondering about that camera myself! Any drawbacks that you've noticed?
I *have* to remember to take more angle shots! Thanks for the reminder.
Jackie
Thanks, everyone.
Jackie - No drawbucks thus far. There's plenty of user error (smile).
