Looking to gain further visibility into your previous blog posts?
I know I was. Like most people, I spend an incredible amount of time creating my blogs. I sometimes cringe at the thought that in a matter of days or sometimes hours that my blog now rests on page 2 within the group(s) I had posted it to.
The widget/blidget to the right (under my profile picture) helps to showcase your previous blogs. It was created on a site called Widgetbox. I had discovered this back in June of 2007 and haven't removed it since I installed it.
One of the neat features of this widget is that it tracks the number of hits. For example, yesterday I had 39 hits; the day before 45. It's a pretty neat feature to have as it's always interesting to see just how many are previewing.
And like most widgets, you can customize.
Here's a quick tutorial on creating this widget (it might be easier to print this out and then refer back to it):
- Sign up with Widgetbox (there's no cost)
- Next hit the "make a new widget"
- Now hit "Blog/Feed" A box will appear at the bottom of the page asking for your blog url. Here's where you'll need to open up Active Rain in a new window, and go to "my blog". Copy and paste the URL. For example, my active rain blog url is: http://activerain.com/blogs/atlantahomestager
- You'll then be taken to the page where you'll be able to customize the size; choose a theme; choose the display, create a title; add images and more.
- The next step is to hit "publish blidget" which is in the bottom right hand corner.
- You'll be greated with a "Thank you" page. Don't leave this page quite yet though as you now need to hit "get widget." A new box will appear with the code. You'll see you can copy the code by hitting the button called "copy."
To add this widget/blidget to your profile on AR:
- Go to 'my home'
- Select 'my settings'
- You'll place the code in the box called "blog description"
- Hit UPDATE when completed.
If it seems complicated, trust me, it isn't. However, if anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Kathy ~ thank you for these very detailed instructions. One question is: can we select only certain of our blogs to go into this widget, and not others (for instance, public ones only)?
I will check it out, thanks for the post.

The magazine is delivered to many locations for free distribution. It goes to all Real Estate offices as well. It is quite popular around Atlanta -- they featured your company and also featured my company as well, and one other -- nice article. Go to www.homeimprovementmag.com for locations to get the magazine -- it's not online as of yet.
