Yup, that's right, I mixed it up and I did it by design.
The home I staged last week is an occupied home and filled to the brim with wonderful whimsical items. I was envious when the homeowner informed me that she had decorated the home with her two young children in mind. How fun.
Her next comment brought us back to the reason I was there; "We need you! We suspect that while whimsical is fun and enjoyable for the kids, we don't believe it will help sell our home."
So... off we went to tour the home. I entered the home using the front door (the same way a prospective buyer would enter). Why? Because I wanted to ensure that the plan I would develop for their home would make for a great first impression.
Here's the formal living room before the "mix-up." This is the first room that you would see when entering the home:
The furniture, as you can see is in great condition. However, the furniture seemed more suiteable for a family room which is exactly where it ended up.
Here's the same furniture used in the family room "after" we staged it:
See.... this mix up actually wasn't so bad after all.

Kathy - Great play on words. It looks great in the family room.
Kathy- I am always surprised when I walk into a house that has the more formal furnishings in the wrong room, but it happens quite often. Great job! What whimsical tables!
I like the "After" photo; that furniture looks great in that configuration.
It's amazing what a fresh eye (and a lot of hard work) can do to transform a space...great job!
Great family room furniture-looks super sharp!! Nice staging work!! Thanks for sharing!
Ok - that furniture looks great in the family room... I have worked with a similar color of sofa in a home that we staged.. I want to see the rest of the house !! God bless,
I love redesigns, now it's a room with a view to enjoy.
Kathy: When I saw the first photo, I thought "Yikes! Kathy better be at the top of her game for this one". And boy, were you ever. Great job!
Kathy - as always fabulous. Yes, they certainly needed you :) Kym
Nice difference Kathy N.! Whimsy is fun for living, yet, a professional home stager like you knows where to draw the line and make it work better when selling the home! The better lighting choice added a nice flair! Regards-Kathleen G
I bet the homeowners were happy with the "mix up". It's so refreshing to see your same old stuff renewed again I bet they wished they'd thought of it sooner. Great job Kathy!
Kathy,
The family room looks great! What a difference a little talented re-arranging can do. Best wishes for a FAST SALE! ;)
A good stager is worth her weight in gold! The house sells faster and for top dollar when it is staged correctly. Always!
Kathy ~ I missed this post before .... your redesign made all of that leather furniture look so much more updated and the placement was perfect for the family room! Now I'm wondering, what did you put in the living room??
