We hear this quote often. According to Giga Quotes John Howard Payne, an American actor, dramatic poet and song writer, wrote this for a song in "Clari, the Maid of Milan" titled Home Sweet Home. The quote actually begins with 'Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam, Be it ever so humble, there's no place like Home.'
This quote has always resonated with me for a variety of reasons. As a little girl, our family was poor. Actually, we were extremely poor. Bread bags with rubber bands served as boots to cover our shoes in the winter. Rent, as we could never own anything, was a whopping 60.00 a month. Despite what we didn't have in our lives, we did have a home. I look back at that period in my life and often times wonder how my mom was able to keep it together. Were there school pictures of us on the walls? No. With 5 children, school pictures were too costly. Were there accessories that occupied space on shelves? No. There was however, a roof over our heads.
So, if you've made it this far into the blog, you're likely asking what does "my being poor" have to do with real estate. Truth be told, it doesn't. What it does share with you is the fact that as a home stager, I feel honored to be invited into your home; to share ideas and to implement changes to further enhance the home.
For those who've given me the opportunity to stage your home; Thank You! For those considering staging, I would be honored.

Hi Kathy,
This is such a wonderful post - we have given you a 5! As real estate professionals, we have to always remember that this is what we do for people. We are there to assist them in their quest for home ownership and this should never be taken lightly. Thanks for sharing your story with us!
WOW! You have truely been blessed! You had humble beginnings, but now you are a professional business woman who owns her own business! You are an inspiration!
I do understand you point. I grew up with humble beginnings also. There were five kids in a 2BR/1BA mill house. Dad worked in the "cotton mill" while mom took care of the house. Dad had a fifth grade education so he made minimum wage. We had dried beans and biscuits mostly for dinner. I remember telling myself I was not going to eat dry beans and biscuits when I grow up. Wrong! It is one of my favorite meals!

Jim - Thank you!
Lisa and Robert - I'm honored that you rated this a 5. Thank you!
Michael - I feel very blessed as I'm sure you do as well. Perhaps this gave us strength to take the bull by the horns and make things happen; I'm not really sure. I do know this, I wouldn't go back in time and change a thing. I am who I am given the uphill climb! Thanks for commenting.

Hi Kathy, I too grew up that way. My dad was enlisted Navy. They didn't take care of their own then, and they don't now. But we had a roof, food, clothes, and love. Thats all we needed back then. Now look at us. Will we ever have enough? I set my business up with low pricing, just so I could help people who don't have much, and maybe need to sell to get out from under high mortgage payments. I love doing their houses.
Terry Haugen - STAGE it RIGHT!
That's admirable, Terry. I too love to help people with tight budgets.
Thanks, Eric (Open Home Mortgage).

Thanks Sybil and Karen!!
