Solutions for Selling Part I - Home Appeal
As a professional home stager in Atlanta, Georgia, I'm often asked for solutions that will help grab the attention of the prospective buyers. And with reason; the more "appealing" we make a home, the more it will stand out from the others on the market.
In the case of this home, we had a spare room (located to the left of the entrance as you walked in) that lacked purpose. If left as-is, it surely would have left many a prospective buyers wondering how they could use this room.
Here's the "before" picture (see below). As you can see, the room already has a perfect neutral color for the wall; an incredible rug and a gorgeous built-in bookshelf. However, the room lacks appeal.

Here's the "after" picture. The solution for this room, given the built-in bookshelf, was to turn this into a home office. Perfect for the homeowners as the wife works from home.

Kathy ~ My first thought looking at the "before" was what a great office that would make! I was glad to see your "after"! : ) It looks great, and makes me wish I had one as nice! I have seen a lot of the newer homes with that room off to the left (and it's not the dining room or living room). I like the idea of the office as opposed to the bedroom I've seen some do.
Kathy ~ What a perfect solution! This room went from a space with no defined purpose to one that will add value to potential buyers.
Beautiful job! Home offices are in such high demand these days. I also really like the way you decorated the built in shelves. I always struggle in my own home with not "cluttering" up my shelves.
Helping buyers visualize the potential. That's what a professional stager does, and, as always, you've done it again. Great job.
Kathy....it's amazing what you can do!
You missed a great time (and lots of good stuff) at RETech South...be sure to check out the blog I did on it!
It looks like we missed our March meeting...let me digest some of my new things and we can get together next month! We got a killer new coffee machine.....ROFL!!!
Kathy, My first thought also was a home office. Amazing transformation! It now has the appeal that was needed.
I had to look at it several times to make sure it was the same room.
Wonderful job
Hi Kathy, The "after" photo looks as though it should belong in a Pottery Barn catalog! Great idea to turn this space into a home office. Really beautiful work and very fresh looking.
Incedible! Can't believe it is the same room!! Can we feature this post?? It is fabulous Kathy!!
Thanks, Kathy. This room had great bones for an office!
Maureen - The owners loved how this came out. And I'm with you, the room before staging lacked purpose.
Samantha - I love decorating shelves as there are so many different things you can do with them.
John - Thanks for your kind words.
Thom - I'm so sorry to have missed the RETech South. I can't wait to read your blog on it and will do so in a minute or two. And you're right, we missed getting together this month. Fortunately, I've been busy with 4 stagings, 1 move and a de-staging! And how awesome is that that you have a new coffee machine. I can't wait!
Thanks, Donna and Virginia.
Diana - your comment brought a huge smile to my face. Thank you!
Oh, Cathy, that was sweet of you. And yes, I'll feature it in the group.
Kathy
Wow! Great job Kathy - I love the after picture. You really hit the nail on the head!
From blah to fabulous and functional! Great job of staging.
Kathy - Great job as usual. The perfect spot for an office - neat, clean and uncluttered.
Kathy, this is another amazing transformation. Of course we all expect no less when it comes from you! Beautiful desk by the way.
Your fabulous, and appropriate, staging of this room makes me want to move right in! I've always said that buyers are looking for "charm", and you gave it to them!
Who needs a home stager. Who needs a realtor. I can sell my home myself and save soooo much money. These people don't work that hard anyway.
And they wonder why it takes so long for the house to sell.
Kathy, that is a fabulous job. I would think that helped that house move fast. And time is money.
Just another reason demonstrating that people can benefit from a range of professionals when it comes to selling a home.
But, I'm preaching to the choir ....
